I have a 502 in the 69...only tight areas were header tube at steering gear box...all else was ok,including clearance at valve cover/brake booster...the intake used is a Edelbrock Torker 2.0,single plane,750 Holley with an aftermarket L-88 hood...
There is a forum member here who has a 502 in his 78...can't recall his username...
Brackets are available for configuring your 454 power steering,altetnator,etc....

I have a blown 427 in my 1980- stock springs but no hood as of yet- coming this summer. Had the 427 with no blower and it fit no problem-no mods.

It's actually not that tight of a fit, unless you have PS, PB & AC. I don't have any options and think there's plenty of room (OK enough room) to change plugs etc.

I just have PS/PB...no A/C...but,I can get to all plugs from engine bay...unlike my 78 SA.....the 69 502 fits real good and is not clutterd up...

Just my 78...but still have original L-82...I would look into wiring harness considering putting 454 in...can't think of anything affected just off hand,though...

Over the years of production, there wasn't that much change under the hood of the C3, with hardly any difference at all between 1978 to 1979. The BB's I've had in my '78 have fit just fine. Have headers, P/B, and will be re-installing axial A/C. No P/S, but the reasons have nothing to do with space.
