Headlight switch diagnosis or change
Before I break my back, can the headlight switch be removed from dash with the harness attached and lowered so that connections can be checked. Everything works except I have no gauge lights at all. Is there a fuse for this? If so what is its physical location on the fuse block? Wording on block is smeared, hard to get to, dark, and I wear bi-foculs. 1981 I can get the actual (stem) actuator out easily, it just pulls out. When I rotate the switch, the interior lights do come on, but no gauge lights.

Here is the sheet from my book, its a 20 amp fuse on the left side of the panel. The switch will come out like you ask, remove the **** then unscrew the nut from the front and it should come out, you may have to remove, then reconnect the connector.

At one time (if I remember correctly), GM wired the instrument lights fuse through the parking lights fuse. That was to alert the driver to the problem if the parking lights fuse blew. This happened once on my 1970 Nova. At that time, the wiring harnesses were pretty much the same, regardless of model, except for accessories.
