I have a 383 in my 61 (not the GM ZZ383). It is a stump puller. Feels every bit as strong as my 68 427/390. They feel alot like a big block, lots of low end torque, without the added weight of a big block.
Anybody running one of the GM ZZ383 engines yet? Seems like the HP numbers really do reflect big block performance w a small block motor.
I am not running the ZZ383 but I have the ZZ383 cam in my 383, so mine is close. I just have 2.02/1.6 alum RHS heads instead of the irons and my CR is at 10.5:1 instead of 9.5.
Im breaking mine in now, Just put the first hundred miles on it today, and can feel it break in running it in the rpm ranges.
I used the zz383 shortblock, and built it up with Brodix IK200's , a Comp Roller Cam, 1.6 roller rockers, Demon 750, New STS turbo Baffles. Oh yeah its very Strong..Makes power from 1800 to 6000rpms in all gears. I have a rod 6sp , It will cruise at a hundred at under 3000rpms.
It wont be completely broke in for a couple hundred more miles.
