Default Cat Heat Shield Question-76

Did GM make a CAT shield for the drivers side? It would be the mirror image as the one I have on the passenger side. The frame has mounting holes. I'm pretty sure the stock exhaust system was a different configuration so it may have only required one before. I'm definetly adding one to the drivers side and a factory one (if it exists) would be sweet....gp

Mine never had one because there was no reason. They came stock with a Y-pipe off the motor that went into that right side cat. Then another Y after that....

Why those holes are there becomes yet another '76 Vette mystery.....

Dan,

Thanks for the reply. I figured that this car came stock with a single pipe running under the passenger butt. When it was upgraded to true dual exhaust, they didn't add a heat shield, thus, toasty buns for the driver. I figured that since the holes were drilled, perhaps an earlier model (70-75?) may have had true dual exhaust. Somebody out here must know....TIA.......gp

Last true duals where 1974, no cats. Ther has never been a C3 with duals with cats from the factory. All C3's with cats had a 2-1-2 exhaust configuration (1975-1982). The crossmemebrs just kept both holes for several years after the exhaust design change.

Did the 75 and earlier dual exhaust cars have heat shields under the seats where mine is located? Just curious, If they did, I'm sure they'd be much smaller then the CAT shield. Looks like I have a metal fab job to add to my list....gp

I have true duals on mine [but no cats] & have not found any added heat issues. Last year I insulated the hell out of mine after I pulled my seats and carpet and THAT made a difference.....
