I have a 81 and it wanders all over the place going down the road what am I missing? I replaced the upper and lower ball joints, the tie rods the steering box and steering control valve had the car aligned still all over the road. any help would be apperciated.

When you replaced the steering box, did you replace the rag joint? That's what I would suspect at this point.

My 81 did not wander at all, but did have some play in the steering wheel....and thus slightly "fun" to steer at times. I put on the lift and found the idler had play. Installed a NAPA HD piece and was shocked what an improvement it made...steering is perfect now. This was one of my more pleasurable undertakings of late....unlike the 5 hour cursing match with the motor mounts. Job took about 45 minutes, and only 3 minor curse words uttered.

I'd go here first. When idler arms wear out, they can cause wandering.
