Default Help please.. where do the compressor braces go?

I've found a lot of answers here but I'm stumped.. Over the last couple of weeks I removed valve covers, intake, exhaust manifold, fan, water pump, just unbolted air conditioner compressor on my 77 to detail engine bay and polish everything aluminum and repaint the other items. My situation is. I thought I had pictures of most of the places I would forget and say "where does this go".

But I don't. I've got the mounting bracket for the bottom of the air conditioning compressor bolted to front of exhaust manifold on passengers side, the brace that runs from the water pump bolt up, and the brace from the top of the intake (bolts under carburetor) to the bolt point on the compressor, but.. I have a brace left over.. about the same length as the one that goes to intake but instead of one bolt hold being 90 degrees offset like that one it just has a couple of angles and the bolt holes are in the same plane.

I don't remember or have any pictures showing me where this goes. I know, I should have an aim but I haven't bought one yet.. have dozens of other books including the office 77 Chevrolet Green Manual, but I haven't where this other brace goes.. Alternator is remounted, power steering is.. smog pump long gone... Anyone know where this other brace goes (on the air conditioner compressor,, somewhere else)

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

I think that one goes to the front of the manifolf over by the thermostat housing for lateral stability. Unfortunately I deleted those pics off my photobucket, will look tonight if you don't get an answer

That one goes from the bottom AC bracket down to a bolt hole in the front of the block by the fuel pump.It probably has a belt deflector on it.

The bracket goes on the front side of the 3/4 heater hose.

Thanks all for the quick responses... at lunch I found the bolt hole down by the fuel pump and the other that was hiding on the bracket that goes to the exhaust manifold and held it in place and thought.. IT GREAT HAVING THE CORVETTE FORUM !!!..

Much better than the old days when the left over parts stayed left over..

Thanks for everyone's help

KapsSA, that does help... is that from an AIM??

I'm Batman... I almost didn't have that brace either.. at least not on my car.. but thanks to all here.. It will be attached tonite..

Looking at the drawing though, now I am curious about the ground wire up there by that lockwasher... guess I have to find that now.. I do have 77 vette electrical manual (original gm) so I guess I'll be on another mission.. that may be in a) the wires I disconnected or b) the wires some expert the previous owner had work on it disconnected

With all the braces on that compressor, the rest of the car might fall apart but I don't think that compressor is going anywhere.

Yeah, the drawing is from the AIM. That ground wire shown comes from the 2 prong connector at the top front of the AC compressor. A green and a black wire, black is ground.

KapsSA, thanks for the drawing.. next purchase .. an AIM... got dozens of manuals but no AIM.. will get one now.. found the ground wire while I was underneath fighting with stud bolts..

ADVISORY.. MY NOT PAYING ATTENTION MIGHT HELP Y'ALL..

I will be pulling off the air conditioner compressor tomorrow nite... Why you might ask?.. Because

I got everything bolted on except for the last brace which I thought.. now that I know where it is.. I can wait on it... SO...

I went to bolt up the tailpipe.. That's where the fighting with the stud bolts comes in.. You know how the stock rams horn exhaust manifolds are identical and fit both sides.. well that's true.. BUT.... if you have the manifold heater thingy.. you better put that one back on the passenger side since IT HAS THE LONG STUDS... which I realized after much disCUSSIN with myself under neath tonite.. SEEMS I in my infinite wisdom had bolted to the drivers side.. and after fighting to put the manifold heat thing on AFTER bolting on the manifold on ( Don't do that, trust me).. I couldn't get the flange up on the studs to put a nut on, much less a washer... I finally thought this ain't right.. thought NO you didn't.. and crawl under the drivers side and saw these really long studs.. much longer than necessary and thought OH SHOOT...

Hope my opportunity to r and r the air conditioning compressor and the exhaust manifolds ONE MORE time... and re hook up all those braces... saves someone else some time...

Thanks again for everyones help.. I'm sure I'll be back asking where does this part go.... lol

Actually, I KNOW I didn't have that brace...the lower front mounting hole was full of paint. The one above it just had a bolt screwed into it. Never had a problem.
