Anyhow, the pedal assembly was damaged and whilst the guys were stripping it out, they removed the top part of the steering column. Attatched to the column near the mid section was a relatively small motor. I asked what it was and was told it was the power steering motor.
From what I could make out, the main rack etc was like on a manual setup and this little motor provided all the driver assist! No pumps or belts to rob the engine of horses etc and a simpler rack.
Has anyone made an after market kit like this for the Vette or is it all too complicated what with electronics etc?
Perhaps I should start a new multi million $$$ business....LMAO!
electric assist is gaining popularity with the car companies. So far the systems are mostly on lighter cars or trucks w/ 24 volt electrical systems.
I haven't heard of a retrofit kit for a vette. I suppose like anything else, it could be done if you throw enough time and money at it.
Nissan Versa uses it as well. I wonder what happens if you have an electrical failure while driving? Do you go flying over the cliff in a ball of fire?
6000 Dollar!!!!!!!!!!!! They should rename the company flaming wallet!!!
That's the Ultra unit. The compact unit is ONLY 4 grand!!

Actually, I think they just revert to manual steering...
