Default Replacing Accel HEI

I want to go with something with a built in rev limiter for sure. I was thinking the msd 6al but it is kindof pricey and I would still need a bunch of other stuff. What do you guys run?

Hey Justin- I've been gone for awhile can you give me an update on your car? Did you get that Systemax set up from Holley all worked out and not backfiring?Did you change to a 4 speed or change your rear end?Did you ever do anything with the block and pistons?

Well, I got it running ok. I still get a backfire when I nail it. I have a 3000 stall converter with a shift kit and 4.10's in the rear. I'm hoping a new distributor will solve my backfire since it has to be timing related. I've tried playing with the timing, I've been to all extremes and all places in between and can't figure it out.

I have decided not to go with the 6al because it of its failures. I was looking at this crane.

Can I use this with my distributor, or do I have to buy a new one?

How would I hook up my tach, does it just have the one wire hook-up like my hei? This seems like the way to go since there are no boxes.

here's a link to e-curve instructions. see page 6

Another unit to consider is Performance Distributors DUI. no box and curved for your engine, but don't think it has limiter

I definatly want the limiter. I like the msd. I think I might go with that. For the coil what should I go with, the msd blaster 2? Also what is the purpose of a ballist resistor and will I need one?

i have a 6al and have never ever had a prolem with it. it's is been in the car for a very long time. what kind of failures are you hearing about? just currious. the blaster 2 is a very good choice. the ballist resistor is used in a points style dist. it protects the points from too much current.

I just heard they burn up at random times. I ordered the E Curve and a blaster 2.
