Default 1980 glove box lock removal

I have seen this written in previous posts but cannot seem to find it.
The glove box lock is loose. I would like to remove the lock cylinder to
enable tightening up the lock. How do you do this? I do have the key
if that is useful in removing the lock cylinder.

Open the glove box -close the latch-put a paper clip in hole on right side and push in tumbler-insert key-remove lock---to put lock back in you must close latch

Should the key be turned to the lock position when removing the lock
or left in the unlock position?

When you manually close the little latch inside it will rotate to the lock position

pay attention to the way it comes out and the way you put it back together because if you put it in backwards it will get stuck in there and next to impossible to get it out without damaging the locking mech.

Thanks for the link.
I have the same lose lock problem, and couldn't figure out how to remove the lock. I thought I was going to have to get medieval on it with a cordless drill.

This sounds like what I did wrong. I was able to get the lock mechanism out and tighten the loose nut on the housing. I then reinserted the locking mechanism and it got stuck about halfway in. I cannot get it in any further or remove it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't know how much help this will be. I did the same thing, put it in backwards. From messing with it, I learned that, when it is in correctly, you have 5 (I think) pins that should be facing right. There is only 1 pin which faces the left side. I just kept working with that 1 pin I could see through the window with the paper clip, and kept pressure on it pulling backwards. Eventually, after wasting a whole Saturday afternoon (I am quite stubborn), much colorful language, and a huge sigh of relief, it dropped out in my hand, no damage, and still worked fine when I out it in correctly. I don't remember, if there is a window on the lock cylinder on the left side. Check that, if there is, you will need to hold the single pin in on the right, at the same time you press each of the 5 pins that that are facing left, and have a helper pull the insert until you get each of the 5 pins clear and it comes out. I was probably just lucky tho.
