Yes - on my '74 the electric connector has two slots, but just one slot on the transmission, and for the longest time I was not connected. Wow, what a difference! It's like a different car.
Small adjustments on the kickdown make a HUGE difference. I had an old truck with a 700-r4 that shifted at 3500rpm regradless of throttle position. I was manual shifting it to try to get it to go anywhere quick Fixed the linkage and it was like I had a hot rod! Well I drove like it was anyway.....
stock, the accelerator pump shot floods it, then it downshifts.
moved to halfway, half the shot hits after the downshift(leaps)

Sorry for my ignorance, but where is this switch you are talking about. My 75 (350 TH400) shifts poorly. I have tried an adjustable regulator with little success. I would like to try this mod, but need some clarification. Any pics?
as i understand it, in teh factory form, the 74 kickdown switch at the accelerator pedal cannot be adjusted to downshift earlier. some kind of modification would be required . . .

I WOULDN'T mess with the pedal.
perhaps a button on the shifter?
or a lever at the carb.
TIP: to find the switch, trace the wire coming out of the th400 pan area. Thats when i found mine, cut off & taped.

the previous owner removed it so i've never seen an original.
i've read some r on the gas pedal, others on the carb.
did u look in the service manual?
I'm pretty sure all TH400 kickdown ("detent") are electrical and on the accelerator pedal, and all TH350 are mechanical (cable) and are on the carburateor bracket.
Is this kickdown switch the same as the air door control switch? Talking about a 1973. If not where is it located in relation to the air door switch?
My 73 will not upshift at WOT even up to 5800 rpm. I have to slow the car down to about 35 mph for the car to shift. It also does not downshift when driving around the area at about 45 mph.

Thanks for the info S489. The service manual and AIM did not show if the switch was the same. The kickdown switch shows on a different wiring schematic than the rest of the wiring. It is a nice day here in Central VA so I'll back out the Vette and take a look.
Matt, I found this thread while searching the archives. I have a 68 with th400 and I need to put the peddle in the carpet to get it to downshift. The switch is "lever activated" from the peddle but there is no adgustment room left. What did you do to make it work? You mentioned $.99 investment. I would pay twice that much. Please reply.
