My steering column will occasionally start vibrating. The wheel itself isn't trying to rotate. It just seems like the column itself is being shaken all on its own. This doesn't seem to happen at very low speeds, and it only sometimes does it on the highway.
This has been going on for years, and hasn't seemed to get any worse or better. I have Steeroids, although I don't remember if this problem started with it. I don't think that it did, but it's been a long time.
The tires are only a couple of years old, and the wheels were last balanced when they were put on.
Since this doesn't consistently depend on speed, I don't think it's a balance problem. The column will sometimes vibrate at 50 mph, but it will more often be fine even at much higher speeds. It's as if some specific road surfaces set it off, but it's not because of any obvious bumps.
