Default '77 Wiper Motor

On completing my motor rebuild and tying up loose ends I find my wipers no longer function. I pulled the wiper motor in effort to check if the armature or drive gear was seized. All looked good, cleaned things up a bit and reinstalled. Upon plugging the three pin connection and the single ground, the wiring got smoking hot. I've checked the switch on the turn single as well as the wiring leading from the switch to the motor. Purchased a new motor, plugged it in and got the same results, smoking hot wires. I researched this a bit in this forum and read that I may have placed the ground that runs down near the starter possibly on the starter solenoid. Which i'll check tonight. Any other suggestions on what may have happened between R & ring the motor (the car motor) and now, they worked fine before.

Sounds like you have a hot wire going to ground someplace. If the motor worked OK on the bench, it has to be in the wiring someplace. Black wire at starter should go to one of the starter mounting bolts.
