I parted ways with my 71 and was looking at a Manual Transmission 69 but would like power steering.
ANyone know if it can be changed? I guess ANYTHING is possible, but is it reasonable to do? Price and work- Specifically Price!
Also needs Air Conditioning- Can anyone sggest a kit possibly or do I have to go original on that?
THANKS for any help
Rounding up the PS parts should not be to bad. The brackets will be the hardest to find but not bad. A pump rebuilt is under $100, PSCV $139, Cylinder $139, Hoses under $100.
Ecklers has the whole kit for under $1000.
Thats new parts, I bet you can scrounge them in here and Ebay a lot less
VBP has complete p/s kits, but I would not do an original type system. I would do a Corvette Steering ("Jeep") conversion.
As far as a/c, you can scrounge up original parts, but the front clip has to come off to do it right. I would do underdash from Hot Rod Air or Vintage Air.
I got all my stock power steering off eBay and the forum here. Less than $250 total at the moment. I still need a pump pulley. The aftermarket providers have them -- just haven't gotten around to ordering one yet.
I am installing factory air in my '68. All of it has been assembled off eBay and here. I will convert to R134a when I install the system. I am under $800, including the extremely hard to find, one-year-only, '68 console trim plate with AC. $125 for that jewel. It's a '76 unit with the A6 compressor and will look completely stock when I lift the hood.
I went with the Jeep kit from Tom Reina. Happy with it. www.Corvettesteering.com

A year ago kit was $675 + 225 for the pump. Easy install and Tom is great to deal with.
I installed Steeroids last year and have a near-complete power steering system I plan to sell. I reused the power steering pump with the Steeroids, but I have 90% of the rest of the parts, including rebuild kits for the gear box, cylinder, and control valve. I just haven't gotten around to posting in the C3 Parts forum.
Hello everyone,
Seems like as I didg further and further into this...
I realize that this may NOT be the car for me.
Needs to be repainted, no A/C, No P/S, Lights are not in place, they have permanent type installed below the bumpers, not original seats(and DO NOT like the sporty replacements, and so on and so on)
ALSO- NOT! numbers matching, not that that is a 100% turnoff- but adds to it!
For the amount we are discussing($11,000) I am gonna keep looking.
I did check the boards here and nothing yet- BUT will keep searching!
THANKS AGAIN
