Default New center console...

Any of you ever installed a new center console? Is it necessary to remove the gauge cluster & Radio?

Thanks!

The hardest part of the job is separating the center console from the guage bezel.

I did not remove the gauge cluster. But you do have to seperate the two at the seam and lift the gauge cluster up a little.

The center cluster can remain in the car. There are two bolts which run from the bottom of the cluster, through the console, and through the console reinforcement. The console attachment at this point and the reinforcement are slotted for these bolts. Remove the nuts (you have to hit them from underneath the console), lift up slightly on the cluster while lifting the rear of the console up a little and pulling backwards. It should come away, but remember, there is a world of stuff under that console. It's an extra step, but I like to remove the center cluster when I have to do console work. I get it out of the way and then don't have to worry about it. Good Luck.

Dave I just removed the center console on my 70 model yesterday. I removed the lower right side dash pad. Just a few screws removes this pad and then the nuts are open to you so you can get to them. Under the center console is where all the fun begins.
