Default TPI Guys some random ????'s

I finally started putting my tuned port back together and I have a few questions? First some brief history, 85 Tuned port off a Vette, converted to speed density. I was chasing a hunting idle and thats why I took it apart. I found a possible intake leak (gasket shifted) I also discovered I was running REAL rich!! So a few basic questions

1 I cant remember which side of the rail the fuel returns off of?

2 Should I install the adj. fuel press. regulator or wait till I got it up and running?

3 W hat plugs should I be running? I had r45ts but they are junk. Is that the correct range for the speed density change?

I doubt this set up was ever properly tuned from day one. So Im pen for suggestions Thanks in Advance

If they are 85 vette fuel rails, the smaller diameter fitting is the return. I went to Arizona TPI and bought my fuel line kit, part # 74731R and bent them to run down towards the stock lines on my 82. I then attached a 8" piece of FI rubber lines between both of them them. Bolted right up and worked great!

I'm using stock 350 22lb injectors and stock fuel pressure reg and it runs great. I would wait until you get running.

I'm using bosch platinum 2 plugs and I like them

make sure you read up on http://chevythunder.com/ lots of good info there.

Anything else I can do to help don't hesitate to ask

Be sure you put the TPI runner gaskets in correctly, they should be smooth with the plenum, if a gasket sticks up it is on wrong. Be sure you have the runners on the correct side, they will go on wrong. Stock fuel pressure and injectors should be more than adequate for a basically stock engine. Ask questions, I have 2 TPI conversion vehicles myself and love them.

Here's good sources for parts and info:

http://www.hotrodlane.cc/ (they offer complete units and chrome related stuff + information)

www.TPIparts.net (good source for harnesses and chip burning)

www.aztpi.com ( where I got my air filter and fuel fittings)

I also used a stock 1982 crossfire TBI fuel filter and a chrome ignition coil bracket from O'reilly auto parts...worked perfectly to hold the filter.

A hunting idle can also be caused by no VSS input from the tranny/driveshaft/speedo ....and the TPI....using 1227730 SD computer needs the 4000 Pulse/mile sender.....I would THINK the 2k/mile woulr work, even though someone said it wont......I dunno, never tried it...

but before I put that last trick in the original install, I was wondering where that hunting idle came from, was advised the sender would cause that, and so I added it, and worked fine....

It can work as long as it's written that way on the chip, not a big deal because a lot of aftermarket installs usually use a custom chip anyways.

Never noting the issue upon the original install 12 years ago, I never thought to make any mention of it.....as in who cares is the computer thinks the thing is going 100 or 50 mph??? unless it's contolling a DIP there is nothing to car about eh?? if so, WHAT??

funny occurance though....my computer on the scan tool says the car is doing say 95 mph and really only doing 75 or so....so it does lockup the converter too soon....which is strange in that I have a damn close to perfect tranny output gear for the actual speed I"m doing, so the d/shaft rpm's should be in there, and so should the count...I would think...but for sure, 60 is 60 verified with a buddy and then my wife...2 differant occations....even did 70 and 75 with wife along side...verifies...

so?? why the computer over thinks the speed???

4000 pulses per mile is just that, and if the speedo is correct....WTF???

anyone??

Im using the 1227727 ECM I do have the VSS , although I think that might be a problem there as well. (Symptom) Car was stalling when down shifting or steping on the clutch? I will check, I think have a 4000 pulse I will check later. Im also running Bosch 24.9 injectors I think the stock fuel pressure reg. will work to get it running? I ll check the link and do some reading later. Ill keep you guys posted

Did you have a custom chip burned to compensate for the larger injectors?

Not totally sure but anytime you make a change like that, what the computer reads needs to match the the stuff you switched to.

Street & Performance made a cutom chip for me based on what they sold me and my cam info. However they sent me a chip for an auto the first time! I did have this set up running, but not like it shpuld . What do you guys think about those injectors and the stock Fuel pressure reg? Atleast to get it running.

O reilly's, and NAPA have a 2000 pulse per mile speed sensor that goes in line with the speedo cable.
Oreilly's # S8329
Napa #Vss 232

When I had my prom burned by;

They asked what size injectors I was using, and alot of other questions. Excellent service, and I'm very satisfied with the product.
