I am new owning a vette (and love it) and to this forum. A year ago I purchased a 1980 that is in pretty good condition. The former owner had replaced the tack circuit board just before selling the car to me. The first thing that I noticed was that it showed about twice the actual RPM. It has now stopped working completely.
I am wondering if the tack filter is the reason. Can the filter be tested and if so how?? Is there any way that he used the wrong circuit board? What other thing do I need to know about fixing the tack???
Yes, the tach filters are known to cause all sorts of problems one of them being way over rpm readings....tach jumping all over the place also....problem now is I hope that filter outta there didn't damage the new board/parts....
what yo need is do a search for the schematic and build one outta radio shack parts for ten bux or less, or buy a ready made tach filter...someone said they are bein reproduced now....
I had problems with mine being eratic and replaced the filter last year which cured the problem. A little pricey but it did the job for me. I think someone posted a homemade one here with some good instructions, try doing a search for it.
Thanks to all for the info. I should have done a search first cause I found answers in other threads. Sounds like a bear to change tach so I will wait till winter to do.
