Why won't my trans downshift?
If it's a TH350 then it should have the cable
If it's a TH400 (mine is '74) then it's electrical and there is a small switch high up under the dash at the end of the throttle pedal linkage.
Jeremy (too)
Push the plunger all the way to rgw wide opwn throttle position, then all the way back. It it supposed to active the kickdown switch the next time the the plunder is pushed to the wide open.
I have heard of putting a piece of rubber hose over the plunger so the throttle activates the plunnger before it reaches the wide open position.
If you've got Carpet issues get someone to stand on the throttle and take a look down the carb. (push the secondary air flap open)
Check that both the primaries and secondaries are opening fully.
Use a torch if needed (do it with the engine off
If things aren't opening properly (don't cut your new carpet away)
Get hold of the pedal and pull it away from the floor (gently but firmly) you can bend this with your hands.
With regard to the switch push it up from underneath to reset it (or flip it with a thumb nail) when it's used next it should self set.
If the switch is worn a BUBBA fix is to enlarge the switch arm with a bit of pipe so that it operates on a different part of the slide. (I say BUBBA - I can't find a new one anywhere - so BUBBAs can't be choosers)
