With a stock v-belt setup which way does the water pump rotate, is it clockwise? Also for the line that goes to the intake manifold can I tap into the lower radiator hose so I can get a pump without the extra hole on the side?
The line that goes into the intake is not for the heater core is it. I don't even have any of that hooked up on my car. My line goes right from the water pump to the intake. Could I just plug the hole on the intake and forget about the little hose?
What I'm talking about is the rubber hose that loops around by the fuel line.

Actually someone already cut out your heater core loop and just circled up the system. All you have to do is pull both nipples, plug them, and you're done. You don't have to have that tube there. That tube is just there because someone didn't want to pull the nipples and plug them. You won't even have to mess with the lower hose since your heater core is not hooked up to the water system.

Ah, that is very good. So I'll plug those up and get a short style standard rotation water pump and I should be good to go.

Not any short Chevy pump will work. You need a Corvette pump. There is a minor difference in length (enough to f up your pulley alignment) and a different shaft size.
The GM performance parts aluminum short water pump works great. same casting as the original iron pump (more or less, ther is a small difference on the bottom side, a little tab sticks out where there wasnt one on the stock pump, and it can be ground off with no problems)- so it'll look stock and fit right.
