When i was ready to install heads i noticed the gaskets had tiny holes for cooling water and the block had much bigger holes ,should i enlarge the holes in the gasket to match the block.
The dart block doesnt have the steam holes, I mean the large water ports in the rest of the block,Dart advertises better cooling with revised water jackets so why would you restrict it,unless to keep water in the head longer for better cooling,I dont know for sure. The high volume water pumps pump more water for extra cooling, dont you want the water through the motor faster then in the radiator slower.
the little holes are for restriction on purpose. the water pump fills the block from front to rear and then it turns up at the rear of the motor and flows to the front. if you punch out the holes in the gasket, you will decrease the flow to the rear of the block. it's all about the path of least resistence. by revised water jackets, they mean it flows better from the front to the back of the block, not from the block to the heads.
I have a Motown block and I enlarged the gasket holes to match up. The problem is the head gaskets are made for Chevy stock blocks, not our aftermarket block.
The race shop pointed this out to me when I has not altered them the first build.
It has to be done to get correct water flow. If in doubt call Dart!
Weekend -I cant get ahold of anyone, I went ahead and installed as bought,Ill get ahold of dart tomorrow. Hope I dont have to take heads off.One of the many things you run into as a beginner.
