Default Heater Control Valve

I need to put a heater control valve in my car because it doesn't have one and the heat this summer is killing me inside the car! haha What I need to know is which hose it goes in. When I replaced the hoses a while back I believe that the hose coming from the pump is bigger then the one going back to the intake. When I look at the valve it looks like it is the size of the smaller hose.

Also I do not have a vacuum hose to hook up to it. I believe that it comes from the control inside the car but not totally sure. Thats for the help.

Default Heater Water Control Valve

I just replace one with a unit from NAPA, http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...Heater%20Valve, You need to refer to a assembly manual which will show you where to put it and the vacuum line connection. My 78 vacuum line came from a valve on top of the heater box in the car behind the radio. The valve is operated by the temp. control cable, when you move the temp. lever off cold it operates the valve and also controls a damper in the heater box.
Good luck.

Get a cut-off valve for each hose, 3/4" and 5/8" at Autozone and put on each hose. If you don't already have a funky heater control valve then why worry about it. You will need a vacuum line from the heater controller in the console to make it work. I think with no vacuum connected it lets water through. I replaced mine one time but finally put on two cut-off valves.
