They use a giant cam core/lobe that allows a lot more room for cam designers to play. Stuff the rest of us old school motor guys only dream of unless we bore block to 55-60 mm cam cores.
The valvetrain is very light as compared to a BBC. The LS-7's are using titanium valves to save weight, lower spring requirements and get RPM. We can do that too....but it's awful pricy!
It all adds up...GM did their homework...except for the funky oiling system on that motor. But even that is a huge improvement for the lifters over our stuff.....it has full pressure to each and every lifter 100% of the time. The galleries are down the side of the bores instead of down the center like small/big blocks. Figure GM might have thought about what it was going to take to make them live? Sure wish Dart or merlin would pay attention! Sure would be good for us!
