Windshield Trim and Door Panel Bezel Paint?

Windshield Trim and Door Panel Bezel Paint?
OK, I've tried two types of paint on my door panel bezel's in my 77, and neither seems to stick :U I've cleaned up all the old cracked paint, roughed up the metal a bit and tried Krylon semi flat black enamal, let it cure... no good. Then I tried a black satin rust inhibitor enamal.. still flakes off and leaves marks to the touch. :smash: What am I doing wrong :confused: Do I use a clear coat over the paint to harden the finish? I want to do the windshield trim in black also.. but first I need to find the right paint that will stick. Is there one paint for both applications, if so please advise a dope! :crazy: :mad :mad THANKS.... :cheers:

I just used some self priming epoxy paint on mine. Looks perfect and the epoxy paint really holds up, and the "self priming" action seems to make a BIG difference. Got it in a spray can at an auto parts store. If removing old paint is necessary, I always use jasco, at least on metal parts.

I cleaned the old stuff off with lacqeur thinner, then washed with dish soap and water. After it was dry I went over all the to-be painted surfaces with rubbing alcohol. Krylon semi-flat in a spray can seems to stick just fine on the center console bezel. ~Juliet
