Another stumbling block in engine build
I tested one to be sure. Sure enough, they are too long. ARP lists this bolt as the 2 bolt main large journal bolt kit. I then called ARP to inquire about this issue. They said that I must have a small journal crank and to order the small journal bolt kit.
I have already established that I have a large journal crank that measures 2.450 inches in diameter. The small journal cranks were 2.300 inches in diameter. For those that have followed along on my adventure, you will remember that Ohio Crankshaft had to cut the mains from a 400 main (2.650) to the 350 main.
ARP gave be the bolt measurements, so I still need to measure the length of the old ones to see what they are. Can it be that I have a large journal crank with main caps that measure the same height as the small journal caps?
At this rate, it will be Christmas before I even get the engine assembled.
My block is a '68 block. That was the first year that Chevy went from the short journal to the large journal. The crank is a large journal, but apparently the main caps are not as tall as new main caps. Therefore, the length is the same as if it had the small journal.

Good luck with the assembly. U are now the expert on sb strokers here.

If the original bolts use an 11/16" socket you will need the early small journal head bolt kit, if they use a 5/8" socket you need the large journal kit.
The 11/16" headed bolts are about 3.000" long where the 5/8" bolts are about 3 3/8" long.
