Engine noise in front

I've had a noise in the front of the engine, pully area. I've eliminated the p/s, then a/c, then alt. by removing each belt one at a time. Still making noise!!!

Any suggestions of what it could be??? I also checked the fan. No movement and the water pump spins freely.

HELP Please!!!

Are you certain the fan is not hitting on the shroud. It took me a while to figure out since it would only hit it when it was running.

Describe the noise. It is a whine? Ticking? What's it sound like?

Check the harmonic damper outer ring rubbing on the timing cover. They have been known to shift.

Me too, had the outside slide back to the valve chain cover.

They will loan you the tool at Autzone for pulling it. With the tool it is not too hard...

OK, since I've found the problem, I purchased a balancer from CarQuest. It's a Pioneer. Has anyone had any experience with this brand. My engine is stock so I feel I don't need anything special.

The reason I ask is I heard today of a guy with a 396 SS Chevelle, close to stock, got on it a little a few weeks ago and the balancer exploded and did about $500 damage under the hood. I talked with him tonight and his was a Pioneer, about 2 years old, and 5k to 10k miles on it.
