That is what I was doing I had it upright and the pump would not go in. I tried spining it around and it still wouldn't go in. I also know it has to be in there a certain way, but it just won't slide in at all in any position.
Check the cast iron rings to be sure that they did not unclip. If they are good, and well lubed, it should go in, up to the large o-ring on the outside of the pump. At that point, a gentle tap around the perimeter with a hammer handle sends it home.
They are the sealing rings that fit inthe grooves on the stator. They are at the rear side of the pump. If you look closely at them, they clip together. Once they unclip, they become larger and do not allow the pump to slip in.
Hum, that is something I will have to look at. I just got out of the shower so I'm done getting dirty for the night but work will resume in the morning. If that is not it, what else could it be?
Ok, my clips are not really metal, they are some kind of a composite. They also don't clip together they just sit there. I have a set of metal rings that clip together in my gasket/seal kit. Should I replace those little brownish things with them?
I replaced the composite rings with ones from my kit. The pump still only goes in as far as it did before. It stops right when the large part of the pump hits gets to the case of the trans.
A slide hammer would have been nice to get it out, it was very hard. I got it all back in the car. Now I just need to fill the fluid. Man me and my buddy are getting good at this.
