Default Missing Timing Mark

I went to check my timing the other day and I had a bit of a problem.

The timing mark is gone!

What do I do now?

Is there a notch cut into it where you could repaint the mark?

I am at a loss on this one.

If you do have a notch, a bottle of white out works great. That little brush tip is perfect. I have done this a few times.

Thanks. I will defiantly take a look tomorrow and see and feel.

The terrible question. What if I don't have the notch? I can't go by the first piston being on tdc to mark it, because the timing could be off to start with.

There should at the very least be a tiny cut or groove. I'm really at a loss when it comes up that you have no mark but there should be one.

The balancer has probably slipped. Pretty common on these cars. You might want to check to see if it has moved back and rubbing the timing cover. Thats the next thing that will happen.
