Over the last few weeks when I open my hood and work my my '75, I notice small red spots of dried fluid on the front of the driver's side valve covers. The fluid looks to be of a light riddish tint. I am not sure where it could be coming from but because there is usually some on my heater hose and distributor, I keep thinking that it could be from my radiator and the fan is blowing it back?
Have y'all ever heard or seen something like this and have ideas of what it might be?

Re: UFOE! (VolVette)
what coolant are you using.
I run 100% distilled water and water wetter. When a puddle of that is left, the water evaporates and leaves a little red stain from the water wetter.
AFTER YOU DRIVE, LOOK CLOSELY UNDER YOUR WATER PUMP FOR A DRIP (WAIT ABOUT 30 MINUTES FIRST). ALSO, INSPECT THE WEEPHOLE AREA. WEEP HOLE LEAKAGE TENDS TO SHOW WATER PUMP IS WEAR, AND IS READY TO GO SOUTH
If you have an automatic, and you say it's coming from the radiator, check your lines from the tranny to the radiator, maybe you have a small leak developing under pressure..
I have not smelled it, usually because it dries on the valve covers before I have a chance. The color most makes me think it's coming from the radiator but it certainly could be something else because it's also close to the color of ATF. So, yes, I do have an automatic as well.
Power steering fluid and ATF won't "dry" and they tend to make a BIG mess, leak while idling, and are generally on the drivers side. If the waterpump is leaking (my guess), the fluid is coming out of the vent under the pulley (it is between the front and rear waterpump bearings) and the pulley with some help from the fan is throwing it back against the engine/ hoses/ whatever. You can't see it from the top, but if you jack the car up, it is visible from underneath and WILL have a stain.
