you should feel it shift. Mine locks up at just above 40 mph when cruising lightly.
You can disconnect the switch on the firewall and see if you feel a difference. Mine is very noticable when it does engage. The RPM drop by 500 and the car feels like it shifted into another gear.
Very noticable with the new motor -- now it feels like someone is pushing the back of the car suddenly.
Should braking disengage the lockup? If so, try cruising at about 50mph or above & gently depress the brake pedal. On mine the rpm would rise by about 300 at the same mph.

yes, that brake-trick proved I have a working lockup, same as Bseery, at 40mph..:)
It's not very noticeable when it locks up though and I wasn't sure since I don't have any experience with this, the vette is my first car with auto trans...
