Got new exhaust ... BIG Difference !!!
Picked my car up today with the new exhaust system.
Car originally had 2 1/2" long tube headers that ran into an adaptor down to 2" (or maybe even 1 3/4") STOCK exhaust .. still original from 1974 !
System had a small resonator in each pipe and then to some ugly mufflers in the back.
Now, it is 2 1/2" all the way to the back, X pipe, and FlowMaster 40s.
Drives like a totally different car. Much more responsive, idle is better, feels a lot quicker.
I still don't understand some of the things the previous owner did ... like this chopped together exhaust. He also built a nice Hi-Po 350 ... but left the original UNREBUILT Q-jet on top !! I don't understand. Oh well.
BTW, a Speed Demon is on the way to take care of the carb.

Please post some pix of this exhaust. that sounds like exactly what i want to have made.
where did he put the "X" part on the system and do the pipes go straight back of are there alot of bends in them?

You mean this car had / has 2 1/2" primaries!!?? going into 2" exhaust!!??

I hope you mean 2 1/2" collectors....
1 3/4"primaries would probably be big for a 350...

Old system was 2 1/2" collectors into stock exhaust.
I will post pics this weekend.
The "X" is toward the back of the car. I am guessing a little to the rear of the seats.
Had it done at Acworth Muffler in .. you guessed it ... Acworth.

I have 2.5" exhaust and even had the exhaust tips punched out from 2" to 2.5 ". Just had an X put on , directly behind the crossover frame rail. That made a big difference especially low end torque and it is much quieter at higher speeds now. I have Hooker Super Comp. Headers 1 7/8" going into a 2.5 " collector with Series 33 Ravin Very Hi Flo Mufflers.(beats Flowmaster and Magnaflow in cfm by alot). It sounds awesome . Have an L88 hood with fresh air , that made a big difference on cold days like today in Northern Illinois - better throttle response for sure.

I have the X pipe with Dynomax headers and mufflers. I love this setup and get a LOT of compliments. It is great to go railing thru the canyons just listening to the exhaust wind up and down with the motor, and it is nice on the hiway as well (not too loud to talk). I bugged the hell out of the installer about clearances while he did the work and had him move the x pipe from the rear to the front, but he was more than happy after I tipped him an extra $20! The X pipe made a very nice difference in sound and a small but noticable difference in performance.
