I also have a 68 L-36. Your experience may vary. What make and part # headers do you have? The instructions will tell you all the stuff to take off first, including I think the clutch attaching hardware, spark plugs? My big problem with the install was that I could not remove my drivers side exhaust manifold! I unbolted it and messed around with that thing for hours and couldn't get it out. Finally gave up and bolted it back on. Eventually what I had to do was unbolt the drivers side engine mount and jack up the engine an inch to get the exhaust manifold off. As for the install, the hooker supercomps actually went on pretty easily - can't even remember if they went in from above or below, but I had a contact point at the idler arm on the pass side (moved it 1/16") and very tight near the steering box - you might have to dent the headers, or they may fit no problem. You won't know until you try.
What are you going to do with the rest of the exhaust system?
Are your headers coated? Mine are Jet Hot ceramic coated. I was very surprised to find the engine ran much cooler after installing headers.
It had the same headers on it before I pulled the motor. When I put the M-mounts in I looked at the ground and notice I didnt have the freggin headers in. They are Hookers. I just didnt know if they would slide in from the bottom without jacking the motor. Thanks for your reply.

Thats very strange??
I just slipped both manifolds in from the bottom & bolted them up last week. Seemed like lots of room as long as clutch mechanisim is out of the way!
