I'm ready to install a fresh 350 auto with a long water pump and dewitts radiator with electric fans in a '76 L82. I lost the original AC and smog pump to say the least and wanted to move the alternator over to the passenger side to even out the eng bay and make the P/S pump easer to check. I currently have no pulleys and am considering a March setup. Anyone know if this will work or know of another setup that is equivalant?
My main concern is fit and alignment obviously. The 2 belt serpentine March kits I was looking at looks like the P/S assy sits slightly higher than the OEM location and I'm wondering if it will hit anything and if the hoses will reach. I'm looking at either of these two kits: Summit part # MCH-22020 high mount alt or MCH-23023 mid mount alt.
I realize I'll need to run the Alt wire to the passenger side along the firewall but that no big deal. I'm fabricating all new simplified harnesses anyways.
I'm open to all options for a similar setups. Thanks for suggestions in advance!
March is excellent stuff, but heavy on the $$$$$. March, Billet Specialties and Zoops will give you all the wow factor you want, and are all in the same price range. If you're not concerned about the wow factor and want to save some money...probably more than a 50% savings, look at the GM Performance serpentine kit. Much less expensive and uses stock GM parts, so if down the road your alternator goes bad, any GM dealer can help you out. You can't say that if your custom, proprietary March alternator takes a dump on you.
I believe all these systems come with a reverse flow water pump.
I don't remember the part# but this kit fit fine. It sounds like the same kit your looking at. FWIW, I saw a vette at the show at Branson Mo. that had a March kit with the alt and A/C on the correct side. He said it was a Corvette specific kit so you might want to call and ask about that.
Thanks, I'm open to any kit as long as it works and puts the alt on the left and keeps the PS pump on the right. Doesn't the March kit just come with billet brackets, pulleys, and nose caps? I didn't think the $500 got you and alternator too? I see all sorts of kits and parts that you guys mentioned including brackets and pulleys but I dont know what I need to put it all together. The other concern as stated earlier is the P/S hoses.. Will they reach or will I need longer hoses?
