I'm getting ready to order new Autometer gauges for the 72.
I plan on electric fuel level, volt meter and
manual oil pressure and water temp.
And the air/fuel in place of the clock.
The water temp sender line is copper with a thin covering that probably doesn't insulate worth crap. So to put the sender in the head and run the line over or under the headers...do you think the header and engine heat will influence the readings?
I would insullate it as the tube is filled with a liquid that expands and contracts to give you a reading if its close enough to pick up any heat{like headers}it will give you a false reading, most likly on the high side :flag
I just bought a bunch of new gauges and so far so good except for the fuel guage. I bought that one off of ebay and it didn't come with instructions. It has three posts. I think one is for lighting and the other two are for the tank sender unit. If you get instructions with yours and it sounds like what I described, could you email me a summary?

Thanks,
Sure..be glad to. here's a start for you. The center wire probably is the light. You should be able to twist it out for bulb replacement. Another wire goes to your sender and i think the other (off to the side) wire goes to your 12v ignition source.
I think it would be safe to use aligator clips wires and try it out.
