Default Street Mods done in order ?

Ok - so here is a question for you experts, for my fall project:

I am replacing Heads, intake, cam and stall .....

Should I do the stall first or does it matter which goes on first ....

Also, does anyone have pictures and/or details on the stall converter R&R?

I read so much about clearances, clicks etc, I want to be sure I know it is IN RIGHT, before I put the chunk of tranny back on the car

It's best to do all together. You're pissing in the wind if you put in a high stall in with a stock short duration cam. What is your current set up and what are you planning to do?

Do yorself a favor and drive a buddy's car with the setup you think you want and build the same thing. There's really no exact science to picking stall,vs cam/heads. The stall speed you end up with is dependant on the torque the engine builds, which is dependant on the cam/heads/intake and of course displacement.

Ball park guesses will get you close if you follow the cam recommended stall.

The converter has a few splines and tangs to engage when you install in on the transmission input shaft. The first two usually slip right in,the last tang sometimes you have to twist and push a pit for full engagement. You will definately feel when it's all in,and see the converter is well inside the bellhousing if you look from the top or side.

As long as the cam, Intake and torq converter are in the same RMP range you need to do them at the same time, neither one is any good without the others. For the torq converter you need to drop the tranny by removing the cross member, drain it first, cables (2), cooler lines (2), drive shaft, dip stick and TCC connector. Then remove the torq converter from the flex plate, there should be 3 bolts, the starter can stay on.
For the new one, install the converter onto the tranny first, carefully making sure the fingers index into the pump all the way, you will need to rotate it to make sure it goes all the way in.
Then install the assy back in the car and bolt it all back up and refill

Save up your dinero and do it all at once - one and done.
I went with a 2,800 RPM stall converter through Summit and love it!!! The tires bark moving into 2nd and a nice jerk into 3rd!

Since you are doing the top end then you may also want to think about a distributor upgrade. I refreshed eveything but originally kept the original points distributor and was back in a month with an entirely new MSD setup which REALLY woke up the motor!!!
