I am trying to replace a non correct outside rearview mirror with the original mirror for my 1969 coupe. The original holes are there but the correct screws only go about half way in. Any thoughts on a remedy would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure how long your screws are... but if I thought there were enough threads getting in I would cut the screws or get some shorter ones.

Thanks for the reply. I've ran this problem by several people and they all gave me the same answer. I just can't figure out why you would have to shorten the screws if they are supposed to be exact repro's.

Run a 10-24 tap through the holes. They are probably full of dirt or rust.
