Default Dyno Tuned today! Results!

Not quite as much power as I expected but more torque than I thought. I'll get a picture of the graph tonight, if I remember.

307 ft-lbs of torque @ 2854 & 3231 RPM
233 RWHP @ 4600 RPM

To give you a visualization of the graph, the torque goes from 125 ft-lbs @ 2300 to 300 ft-lbs @ 2650 and slowly tapers down. Horsepower obviously slowly climbs up till about 4600 and starts to drop slowly.

Seems to get lean up top, too. I'm betting the fuel pump has just about had it, since it's the stocker.

To give some insight on what's in there it has a summit 1103 cam which has .442/.465 lift and 214/224 duration @.050. Got an Edelbrock 1904 q-jet with a performer copy intake manifold. Full length headers and sidepipes, but the J bends for the sidepipes are probably hurting the power a little. Those and the glasspacks which hurt flow a little, also. Vortec heads with Z28 valve springs and the bottom end was rebuilt similar to stock a couple of years ago with slightly higher compression hypereutetic pistons. I'll definitely re-do the exhaust soon to be less restrictive and am going to replace the fuel pump asap.

After the exhaust is re-done I'm just going to finish the other stuff, like suspension, steering, and interior, and focus on saving for a new engine to get more power the right way. 427 with a motown small block.

What were you expecting, or what did you estimate your flywheel hp to be?

in any event, still nice enough numbers imo...

I was expecting at least 250hp, but not that much torque.

With a 20% drivetrain powerloss that still brings me to ~280 net horsepower. Which can easily be considered over 300 gross, which means I'm within the LT-1's range of power. However I don't think an LT-1 ever put 300 ft-lbs of torque down at 2600 rpm.

From RWHP to GROSS HP, it's more than 20% loss with your TH350 and full exhaust.. With automatic and full exhaust, you are looking at more than 30% total loss with a TH350.. It would be 35% with a TH400..
THe 30% would break down into: 20% loss through dirvetrain and tranny, 3% loss throush accessories and 7+% loss through exhaust..

I'd bet that the engine would make about 300 GROSS HP on the dyno with open headers and no accessories..

Stock TH-350C as grandsportc3 already figured out.

I'd still like more power but that would require a decent amount of work and $$$ on an engine that I'd really prefer not to dump that much in to. For now that ton of torque will do me well at autocross, as it's at a good RPM to pull me out of the corner and on to the straights. I'm wondering how much power my exhaust could really be eating, though. As those glasspacks really quiet the SOB down, so they've gotta be pretty restrictive. Time will tell when I redo the exhaust.

I completely agree!:
I bet those side pipes are killing it. Side pipes suck for power. Have you ever considered going to under car exhaust?(normal exhaust I mean)

Yours is making pretty good power. I bet could run some 14.20s or so with that power. Not bad for a driver/auto X er

My next exhaust system will go under the car but will still exit just behind the doors. Because that's how I like it.

Going to have a custom crossmember fabbed up for me to do it right and I may be able to squeeze an X or H pipe in there with it. We'll see.

I doubt your fuel pump is the problem, consider tuning your secondaries. Also make sure your floats are set up correctly.

Well looking at the air/fuel ratio numbers on the sheet. It starts off lean with a 15:1 at like 2000 then richens up to high 12s:1 till about 3600 or so and comes back to 13s:1 till about 5000 rpm where it hits 14:1.

So it's mainly lean down low and decently rich in the middle and then leans out on top again.

Also, it's the ORIGINAL 25 YEAR OLD fuel pump with almost 95k miles on it. It seems to be causing some of the fuel bowl drain back, too. I'd say now is as good a time as any to replace it.

Went to JBA Racing because they're less than half the price of the dyno shop. Every time you go to the dyno shop they want to completely rebuild the carb, and regap the spark plugs yadda yadda. Comes out to around $500 with them. JBA only charges $180 plus parts. Came out to $220 because they had to put gas in since I forgot to tell them that my massive tank still had like 10 gallons even though it was near E.

Plus the guy that did the actual work used to work at the dyno shop anyways, and JBA is half the distance from where I live.

I think it was Jarrod. He's been at JBA for about a year now.
