I ordered a new Melling Select oil pump and thought it a little strange that it came with no gasket. Went to the local NAPA and they said they only showed a oil pump gasket for a Corvette thru 1977. Finally they said they found the part, but it would have to be ordered from Seattle, Wash. They sent me next door to a high performance parts shop and after telling them my situation, they explained that the Chevy oil pump does not require a gasket. I checked the Hayes Manual and it did not mention it at all. Anyone know how the pump goes on? With gasket or without? As always, thanks in advance.
i replaced the eng. bearings in my 79 L82, in the car, the oil pump had no gasket when i pulled it. i just put some permatex gasket sealer on it and reinstalled new one. have over 2000 miles on it since. and oil pressure maintains at 45 psi.
