I have the old TH350 out of the car now. :D So here's some questions for you guys who have already gone through this. First is how much fluid am I supposed to put in the torque converter before installing it on the trans? Second is how did you guys hook up the old speedo cable. It seems to be a whole different setup. Did you guys hook up the original trans cooling lines? Thanks for the help
The stall convertor supplied with my 700r4 from BTO had instructions to install one quart. As for the speedo cable, mine hooked right up, but the unit I removed was a T400. Not sure if there is any difference between 350 and 400. The only problem I encountered was with the column lock bracket for the shift cable.
I qt in the vertor. any more than that it will be spilling all out as you try and put it on the tranny. The speedo gear housing on the 700r is bigger then the 350. I think this is where crossmember mods are required. BTO has the bolt in peices. Original cooling lines should work with a slight bend if needed. Be carefull not to kink them. Great mod..yur gonna like it. John
Thanks Jon, I can't wait to cruise around with that higher first gear and get some nice mileage on the highway. I think now I can finally take my car to the Corvettes at Carlisle show. The drive down should be a piece of cake with the overdrive gear.
Yur welcome x. You got a lockup convertor right? If so are you gonna wire in any toggles? I did the full monte on my convertor wiring with two toggles. One allows you to keep the vertor unlocked all the time, even in 4th. You'll like this because you can cruise in 4th at lower speeds without bog. Without this switch you wouyld be forced to pull the stick down to 3rd to avoid the bog. I have the XE268 also. Even with the 3.90's I get bog when cruising at 50mph or below in 4th while locked. Unlock the vertor and its smooth sailin in 4th all the way down to 30mph or so. The second toggle allows me to lock the vertor in 2nd and 3rd gear. My E.T.'s were and average od two tenths better with the vertor locked in 2nd and 3rd.
Your TV cable set up is critical to good performance and long life. If its not set up right, it can burn up the tranny in no time.
If you need some help when you get to that point I can give you a describtion of a wiring option. Right now I gotta go rake some leaves. Man I got alot a leaves
