thanks terry i was going to use a vac/electric or a pull type like on an old motorcycle rear brake light...and i probably will still have too.. that is probably going to be a hard part to find thanks again
sorry,
I thought 74's still had the 400. Still worth taking a look to see if the switch is still there for the door. its possible it just got pushed out too far somehow and needs to get reset. look way up near the top of the gas pedal arm. Mine is a dark tan color.
ok i am sorry i have a 77 with a 74 hood and complete cowl induction setup...i always wanted to do this because it was an great concept/setup...untill the government and ralf got involved and well you know the rest...but i have no under the hood (hot)air comming in infact i mod. the second snorkel comming in the front kinda like the old buick setup.(just opposite the one on the drivers side)...by the way the dual snorkel setup is off a late 80s l82...anyway the switch want be hard to make,i just wondered how it was done from the factory.but thr tranny switch would be great ..thanks
rweasterly,
If you want the set-up to work like the original, then you'll have to get hold of a '73 or '74 air cleaner assembly. The AC base is the "standard" 14", but the AC top is only 12" o.d. and so is the AC element within. This leaves a 1" gap between the top and the base for the air (from the cowl) to flow into the AC assembly. To have this air exclusively, you will need to block off all engine bay air, and GM did this in '73 - '74 with a big rubber seal that fitted to the AC base and sealed to the underside of the hood.
To do it so it looks "factory", you have some dollars to spend.
thanks for the reply aussiejohn...but i have the proper hood seal and it is fully funchnl ...what i did is take son parts from other years and make it better it has a late 70s l82 dual snorkel base and i mod the passngr side snorkel so it isnt routed under th ac compressor..i looks like the system used on some of the duak snorkel buicks where both air come in the front....the reason i want to put the flaper back in is bucause of the air noise when im just crusn around.now that i finally got the exhaust quiet ..next i have the 74 aircleaner ring, seal, filter, and top.....
