Today I decided it was time to change the filter and fluid in my tranny, I had done this on TF350's before and remember it being a rather messy job, but WOW  I think the 400 is even worse!!
The pan edges are almost all curved so I had a hard time getting it to drain in one direction, the fluid kept dribbling over the sides of the drain pan and down my arms :U .
I know :nopity  .
I am happy to say that after the filter change and a new modulator it is shifting even better than ever, and since more than half of the pan bolts were found to be only slightly more than finger tight I think I might have solved some of the leaking!
I do have one question.
How difficult is it to change the tailshaft seal in the tranny while it is still installed in the car??
just pull the driveshaft out and the yoke and take a screwdriver and pop out the old one and tap in the new one around the edges but be careful not bend the new one going in.you can do it.
next time get a suction gun, about 3 feet of 3/8 plastic tubing and suck the fluid out through the dip stick tube. then remove the pan to change the filter.
