It's a known fact that a lot of A6 compressors throw oil at the clutch. I've had 3 and they all threw varying amounts of oil on the engine and up under the hood. I decided to do something about it and made a shield that fits over the clutch assembly. The whole project cost about $5 not including tools and consisted of a piece of aluminum sheet that I bought at the local hardware store. Here's pics of the progress.
Cardboard templete
Shield, cut and bent
Buffed and mounted to compressor
Yeah, I know, the pics suck but its the best I can do right now. I'll probably pull it off and give it a little better buffing and I have to ziptie the clutch wire but you get the idea. I'm sure this will beat cleaning the underside of the hood.
Whatever was available at the hardware store. Seriously, I picked up a piece that was ridgid enough not to rattle when the engine was running. I would estimate it to be 18 to 20 gauge.
