'94 4L60E questions
1. It should fit just like a 700R4, correct? I'll need a shorter driveshaft and a different crossmember (I drive a '79)
2. Can I take the mechanical speedo housing off of a 700R4 to put in place of the 4L60E's tailhousing?
3. How much torque will these early models take? the later years didnt seem to have any trouble with the 375-400ft/lbs of torque LS1's and LS2's put out, but the engine in front of this tranny only puts out about 300 or so.
4. A computer control kit should be able to take care of lock up functions and throttle position sensors on my carburated engine, correct?
I was dead set on doing a 2004R swap, but I like the idea of computer controlled shift points instead of vacuum controled and this may end up being cheaper as well. Thanks in advance guys.

2)No. speedo sensor stays, but I think the electronic kit allows for this
3) It depends. The 94's use a single cage sprag that sometimes fails at, or slightly before 400 hp. High mile units flip the spags very easily
4) Correct. Kit runs $600 or so.
I work/own a 'junkyard' and we sell replacement more 93,94, and 95 model 4L60s than all the other years combined, twice over.
Just like anything else, the first years of something are likely to be more susceptible to design flaws. Also, the trannys have slightly different pin arrangements on the big plug than the later models, if I remember correctly. I would think an actually 700r4 would be a lot easier, more dependable swap. You can put it in even without a controller for the lockout, and still have an overdrive. The kickdown cable can be fitted to a carb also. I like simple! If you are going to do a 4L60, get a 96 and up model.
