Where/how do you remove the rubber brake hose from a front caliper?
I'm in the process of rebuilding brake calipers for the first time. I did the rear pair, and started on the fronts. Although I could get the rubber brake hose "loose" at the caliper, I can't unscrew it completely from the front caliper because the fitting at the caliper doesn't swivel around the hose (the entire hose would have to be twisted to unscrew it completely). I can't tell whether it is supposed to turn and is too corroded to do it, or whether you are supposed to disconnect the rubber hose at the point where it is connected to the metal brake line, then twist the entire hose as you unscrew it from the caliper.
soak the fitting at the hard line with pb blaster if you need to. mine was frozen together and i ended up having to replace my hard line. it would just not come loose and i ended up damaging it trying to break it loose. if i had been a little more patient and let it soak over night i might have had better luck.
Thanks for the advice. I actually disassembled the front caliper and spun the half with the hose connection around the hose to get it loose. But I'll try to remove the hose and do it right, to reassemble it. I'm guessing it would be a good investment to replace the rubber hoses while I'm at it.

Absolutely! If they are the 38 year old originals, you are on borrowed time. No way you want to mess around w/the brakes IMO. They are not expensive and you have it apart anyway. Do it now and it's something else you won't have to think about for awhile.
