Place a long straight edge across and under the full width of the hood at the point where the center of the carb would be, and measure the distance between the straight edge and underside of the hood. Measure your old hood the same way. The difference is what you have gained. If you have more than 2 to 2.5 inches clearance you are probably home free!
The pictures you posted make think you've just about made it.
There's a BIG difference in the hood clearance of a mid-year and a C-3. All GM intakes (even on Chevelles and Camaros) were shortened in 68 to meet the low-profile Corvette hood. This is one reason the 67 Tri-power intakes are considered higher performance units than the 68, 69 units. The upside of this is that you don't need a 71 LS-6 intake for rect. port heads (one year only), the 70 LS-6 Chevelle and the 396/375 HP Chevelles and Camaros use the same intake. I sold one last year for $275.
That is a pretty sweet looking hood Steve. I have an L88 hood on my 71 and I hate it. Sorry, but to me it's overkill. Yours keeps the stock LT-1/BBC look with extra clearance. I'd very much be interested in its origin.
