I'm having a bear of a time getting my body shop man motivated to start my frame restoration. I've been "next in line" for a full eight months now and I am no closer now than I was in March. I call him every week and check in only to be told that "I'll get to you in the next couple weeks".
I live in a very small town in north central PA that's close to nothing and I don't have alot of options to choose for body shops with experience working on Vettes. I've seen this guy's work and he's excellent but my patience is wearing pretty thin. Do any of you guys have similar experiences or should I quit complaining and be pateint? Thanks, just wanted to vent a little.
I'm assuming you're probably spending a bit of money to have someone do the restoration. I think that if he/she doesn't get on the ball then you should find a shop that values your business...maybe that's just my opinion though. I figure that if you have to drive a bit of a ways to find a decent shop, it's far more worth it than waiting forever for some guy to put off your car work and feed you excuses.
I can't even find a shop that will tell me they'll work on my car. At least you found one that will do it. They don't seem to want to do it very bad, but they'll do it.......someday. :D
If a shop puts you off for the second time, . . . Find a new shop! A lots of shops will pertend that they are interested, but in reality they working on paying jobs that are easier to complete. Find a "Corvette Resto" shop from a good source and trailer your car to them. They don't have to be next door.
You need to visit the shop every week. After a while they will do the car to get rid off you. I have two friends who own body shops. Your car is a dead sled. One of my friends had a nice old Mercedes roadster sitting in his shop for 8 years before he finished the car. Most shops have a car or two that they want to fix but never find the time. Never pay any money in advance.
