I removed my intake because it was leaking oil from the back. 6 of my intake ports (3 on each side) had a brownish tint to the wall of them. But 2 of them (1 on each side) were clear and looked basically brand new. What is the deal here?
It was probably sucking in oil through the valley. A common problem with the sbc. Also means it was leaking from more than just the back. New gaskets should cure all......

I see you have a Performer intake as well. I just installed mine today. Frankly I'm not impressed. Not that I expected a big increase in torque, but I'd be hard pressed to be able to discern any improvement in performance. What's been your experience?.
By the way, one of the reasons I went with the alum. intake is I was going to change out the gasket anyway, due to suspected sucking of oil, just like you are having. I've been getting around 400 mi. per quart since the rebuild.
Its a holley street dominator, not a performer. I put the intake on when I did the cam and head swap so I can't tell a difference but over a stock intake I know anything would be and improvment. If your heads are just stock ones then I think that would be your bottle neck now.

Its been awhile since I read it in one of the rags but seems like I
remember a test of the performer added 9 hp over a stock iron
intake can not remember if it was on a dyno or at the rear wheels.
An auto car if the torque converter is stock anything you
put on the engine is going to have around a 20% loss of power, so
if it did make say 12 HP at the engine your not going to feel much of a gain.

You're right. 12 HP over the ~300HP has now isn't going to kick me in the backside. I'll just have to appreciate the nice clean aluminum finish and let it go at that.
I just figured with all of the other mods. I've made to the mill a 2101 might add another dimension to the package. I think it does add some low end before the secondaries kick in. At WOT, however, I really don't "feel" any difference. (yes, I know, without specific ET data it's all just opinion)

It was worth spending the money besides a little more power you
probably lost around twenty pounds off your car. twenty pounds
that you don't have to stop with the brakes, accelerate or drag
around a corner is all good.
