This forum wasn't up when I had the question this morning, so I posted at the other place. I'm posting it again here so everyone here can know what's going on.

The Bowtie crossmember wants to use the front trans mount and there is major interference between the crossmember and the rear mount. What's up with that. Do later 700R4s not have the rear mount? What should I do. Find a later tailpiece. Order the 80 Crossmember? Help!
I remembered later that when I did the 700R4 conversion, I used my Turbo 350 tailpiece so that I could keep my 79 Vette driveshaft/yoke.

Yeah, some pics would be great...
As you know the 80-82's have the cross member where you can only run the exhaust down the pass side.. Does not look good in my opinion. Also another member on here cut his driver side crossmember. Looks good.
Just trying to play out my options. I think this cross member has enough arch in that you can run the pipes under with no problem.
I see you got rid of that pesky spare tire....
Thanks,

Thanks,
yep, save 60lbs getting rid of that never used sucker. Lost another 35lbs going to the aluminum batwing. That's 95 lbs I was allowed to gain thru non-healthy eating and no exercise. Looking for weight savings in that heavy *** exhaust system now.

And the composite spring too right? These are some of the things I'm considering. How about the factory bumpers, not the covers. How much do you think those weigh? (Sorry for the hi-jack)

I did that too. The factory rear bumper is gone and I have a composite rear spring. Check my signature for the bumper weight loss mods. The car has gone from 3600lbs down to 3200lbs so far.

The BowTie crossmember is designed to use the mounting just behind the pan. I used an '82 Corvette tailhousing on mine and had to make some mods because a C4 700R4 does not have those holes drilled and tapped. BowTie says they do it that way so you can use any 700R4taillhousing.
beejay nice looking car are you running both an h pipe and an X pipe?
Thanks Bob. Yes, I am running both, x pipe and a crossover pipe. The x pipe gives it a unique sound but it really toned down the noise and got rid of the resonance. I was about to get rid of my Flowmasters but tried the x pipe first.

i noticed the same thing when i added the h pipe to my car.....let me ask about the order you did it in and what you noticed....did you add the x pipe after the H pipe was installed? and is this when you noticed the difference in the resonance? i noticed the drop in the "drone" or resonance with the H pipe and an increase in torque also. bob

Nope, I had the exhaust system built with the H-pipe and turbo mufflers. Sounded great, worked great. Since it wasn't broke, I fixed it. I replaced the 2 1/2" turbo mufflers replaced with free flowing 3" Flowmaster 50s. Everyone loved the sound but was driving me crazy. I had to rejet my Q-jet, so it must have been freer flowing. I could not live with all of that noise and the drone. I was going to toss the Flowmasters and replace with Magnaflows. But I decided to try the x-pipe first. Man, that really quited things down. It's loud at WOT, but idle and cruise is much nicer. And I get to keep the Flowmasters.
