Starter bolt problems
Just picked up clean 73 with a starter problem. The starter would grind and not turn the motor over. When checking I found the starter was loose. Tightened the bolts it started and worked for about two days before it started to come lose again. What I found is that the edge of the block is broken of for about the first 5 threads. Since it is a ofset bolt pattern starter the starter rocks just enough for it to disengage from the flywheel. I really don't want to pull the motor. Anyone have any suggestions? I thought about using on of the mini starters with both bolts in the front plate.

Do you have "real" starter bolts?...with the 1/2 inch of knurl that fits between the block and starter? The block doesn't have threads for the first 1/4 inch to allow for the knurl.
Also, do you have the rear stabilizing bracket between the starter and block?
