I bought the Melling high volume oil pump and the ARP driveshaft for my rebuild. Here's the question: The oil pump says to use the steel pinned sleeve. The ARP shaft has a steel sleeve, but no pin. What do I do? I also bought a new plastic sleeve, and I have the original shaft. Should I use the new plastic and old shaft, or am I missing something with the ARP shaft? Do I need to buy a pin, or some other sleeve?
First 70PurpleLS7, beautiful car. Second, do I just slip the ARP shaft and sleeve over the pump? The sleeve captures the shaft, but it doesn't hold the shaft on like the stock plastic one. What I mean is that the plastic sleeve will hold the two pieces together if you hold them up side down. The ARP sleeve won't; it only keeps the shaft centered on the pump.

First - Thanks  Second - Is this a one piece deal? The Moroso ones are one piece, ya just put it on and your done. In regards to holding it upside down, the rod cannot come out of the top of the engine so it won't be going anywhere, even with the distributor out.
Yep, just slip the steel sleeve on and install. Once installed, it can't go anywhere, and is stronger, without the risk of breaking like the OEM plastic sleeve. I know what you mean though, the plastic sleeve does kind of snap on, but, like I said, once installed, that ARP sleeve is much stronger, and you'll never have to worry about it breaking during engine operation.
