Had a little problem yesterday. My car would not start after shutting it off. A whole day and a new stater later. Still nothing. I tore the console off looking for the nuetral saftey switch. While in the console I found and traced a wire that appears to be a security switch that I must have hit when I put my tops in. Switch it the car starts. Thank God!!! I didnot want to have it towed. Now here is where this get interesting . Got it home and played with the damn switch some more and now my car will not start again. I think I blew a fuse. The switch was heaating up so I replaced it. To see If I could get the car to start. Ican not put my windows up nor my headlights down. Any suggestions. pleazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
OK, first off if it is a Bubba Optional Security System (BOSS) it should Not get hot. You need to of course check the fuses, and then look into what the switch is wired into. If you don't have an aim or a good shop manual, get one. The way to do those switches is as a starter interupt, simply to prevent the starter from picking up. Another option is an ignition ground. So you need to figure out what it was connected to
The Bubba security system was wired into the neutral saftey switch. Got rid of it and replaced the neutral saftey switch. Tried to start it and the purple wires got hot. I heard there was a fusable link from the neutral saftey switch to the starter. Is it possible this could be the problem. How do I locate it. What does it look like
fuse links located on the starter, there are 2 of them. They are a small section of wire spliced into the bigger harness wire. 1st, disconnect the switch you just put on, there is a problem there you need to get resolved. Then check/replace the fuse link (s).
