I have a 1970 vette convertable, big block. Recently I spent alot of money for a candy apple red paint job. I will be getting lojack with the early warning. I also have a steering wheel to clutch lock but I still want more security. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ron
I have a cover thing that goes around the steering column and covers the ignition barrel. I'd imagine that a pro could get it off but it would make it hard for anyone else to break the steering lock.
Mind you, over here there isn't a great deal of car theft - they cut your right hand off if you're caught...
N/A profiles really don't let us help you as much as we might.
"Always keep it in sight" is a good rule-of-thumb. A lot of us enjoy weekend cruising, informal shows, short destination visits, etc. Not so much leaving it in a shopping mall parking lot for an evening.
I have always liked the fuel cut-off idea. On a carbureted car it allows a thief to get out on the road then stalls the car. He is not as likely to stick around to figure out why when he's in the middle of a public roadway.
I have a hidden ignition cutoff switch and a battery cutoff. Don't know if that is good enough to stop a theif...but it will certainly slow 'em down a bit.
I wired my 77 factory alarm to a starter kill.
I used a 3m t-tap to splice into the yellow wire from the factory alarm relay. When the alarm is tripped this wire switches to a ground -- you may have to probe if the wire color is different. I wired the relay near the factory alarm relay which is right below the shifter assembly. The only wires you have to cut are from the neutral safety switch which can be replaced if you wanted to return to stock.
I cut the purple wire from the neutral safety switch and connected each end to terminals 87 and 87a. I tapped into a constant 12v (lighter) and connected that to terminal 86. I connected the tapped line from the yellow wire from the factory alarm to terminal 85. Terminal 30 is left open.
The relay is only switched when the alarm is tripped and if it fails the car will start and not leave you stranded.
